Since the age of 9, Nicholas Dunlap has been involved in multifamily and commercial real estate. What started out as a part-time position working on one of the maintenance crews servicing the DPG portfolio progressed into leasing, site management, brokerage, investment and ultimately into the oversight of the DPG portfolio, a roughly 1.5 million square foot operation consisting of multifamily, student housing, mixed-use, office and industrial property types.  Through business development and strategic partnership efforts, Nicholas was able to increase the firm’s management revenue by 20% in just under 5 years.  Mr. Dunlap was also able to identify and coordinate ancillary income streams and cost savings during the economic downturn.  Dunlap is an expert in both the for-sale and for-rent sectors of the multi-family marketplace, making him a sought-after investment counselor and broker advisor.

Dunlap also lead the Western US Team at McKinley, Inc., a portfolio of over 2,200 units employing over 60 on-site and regional employees across 12 sites in 4 states.  During his time with the firm, he was instrumental in driving regional portfolio occupancy by 5.5%, resulting in a 4.38% growth in revenue and increasing portfolio NOI by over 69%.  Currently, Dunlap is the Director of Property Management at Irvine, CA based Avanath.  At Avanath, he oversees the firm’s property operations, due diligence efforts and works with the asset management team.

Mr. Dunlap is an internationally published author, featured columnist and speaker.  He serves on the Apartment Association of Orange County (AAOC) Board of Directors and is the current President, the Orange County Commission on Housing and Community Development (OCCHCD), a past board member at the Fair Housing Council of Orange County (FHCOC) Board of Directors and the Editorial Advisory Board of the Journal of Property Management (JPM).  In 2011 he published his first book: “The Four Benefits: Commercial Real Estate Investing & You”. In 2014, his second book: “Brick and Mortar Piggy Banks: Your Guide to Creating Life Changing Wealth Through Real Estate Investment”.

Nicholas graduated from the University of California, Los Angeles and holds his B.A. in English.  A licensed Real Estate Broker in the States of California and Texas, Mr. Dunlap is also a Certified Property Manager through the Institute of Real Estate Management.
